My impression towards Nine Inch Nails' The Slip
I'm one of those who are true fans of Nine Inch Nails. I collect their albums since 1992's EP "Broken" until the latest 2008's "The Slip". For the audio CD, Trent Reznor still performs his brilliant skills on composing this record. The mood of this album starts with dim and mysterious atmosphere on "999,999" by letting the synthesized sounds treat your emotion. Then, the real show commences with the songs "1,000,000" with the heavy beating drums' line and heavy distortion guitar. Some of you may feel that this song sounds like "March of the Pigs" from their 1994 album "The Downward Spiral". The mood continues with "Letting You", "Discipline", "Echoplex" (one of my favorite tracks on this record), and "Head Down" (my another favorite track). Since your mood climb up to the highest point, it will descend down to the calmest emotion when you listen to the tracks "Lights in the Sky", "Corona Radiata", and "The Four of Us Are Dying". Finally, just finish the show of Slip with the song "Demon Seed" by listening to their heavy-distortion guitar and heavy drums.
For the limited edition, the rehearsal performance DVD of 5 songs are in really good quality and high resolution (1,000,000, "Letting You", "Discipline", "Echoplex", and "Head Down").
If you are looking for electronic-rock band, Nine Inch Nails is definitely recommended.

Can anyone say..........overdone!?
This album is free. Which is awesome. But it sounds free too. The lyrics to discipline" are very fitting for trents life, which I can relate to as well, but most of the album sounds just waaay too comercialized and overdone. He uses simple lyrics and its just not that impressive. The four of us are dying impressed me a bit. But i would NOT buy this album. If you must, download it for free 2008-09-21

a few good tracks...
I've been a NIN fan for years, but am continually disappointed when each new album (post-spiral) is released. There are always a few too many mediocre songs, cliche lyrics and formulaic song structures which get in the way of an otherwise brilliant album.
Of course I'm incredibly pleased to have just downloaded the new 'slip' album (not so new anymore though) and ill be playing it for the next week or so. But it always annoys me when Trent doesn't reach his potential. The main flaws of this album are also characteristic of 'With Teeth' and 'Year Zero' - too many cliche lyrics which Trent has been using for over a decade, and heavy songs which all sound identical (or else lack the artistry and experimental edge of Spiral and Broken). He also needs to put more effort into the drum beats in his songs (they tend to sound way too standardised), which is a surprise considering he's been influenced by guys like aphex twin.
I still hope NiN will one day create an album which does justice to Trent's skills. but even if they dont, they remain a long-lived band with an awesome assortment of great songs (alongside the crappy ones).

Okay
Not the best NIN, but far better than the most recent noise they have released. At least this cd has some actual songs with lyrics! I'm all for different directions and such, but when it's just a bunch of "instrumentals" dub it some other name than NIN. I grew up listening to Pretty Hate Machine and Broken, that's NIN. So with that said, this is their best cd in a long time. Still not great like the previously mentioned titles, but listenalbe. 2008-09-16

The Slip Vinyl Experience
Being a NIN fan, this was an obvious buy. Also the fact that I like to kick back and listen to my vinyl's. Awesome stuff. 2008-09-10
