In The Heights

I saw this Latino rip-off of "Rent" and "West Side Story" last week. Many audience members left at the intermission. I stayed hoping for a better second act. It didn't happen. This is muzak garbage. The script is sophomoric and the unit set is boring. The highly acclaimed choreography is out of the "Solid Gold" dance academy.

I tried to listen to this CD before I left for New York and was appalled by its mediocrity. It is too mundane for words.

Save your money.

This show won best musical at the 2008 tony awards and if you buy this cd or see the show you will understand why. The first time I listened to this I didn't really love it, but the second time I listened to it I NEVER wanted to turn it off! I love to sing so usually I get broadway CDs like Wicked and Legally Blonde so I can sing along. In those shows the main characters are women with great big voices and lots of solos. Now don't get me wrong there are women with great voices and songs in this show, but I find myself enjoying songs where Lin-Manuel Miranda and Christopher Jackson are rapping more than any other song on the cd! Highlights are In the Heights, It Won't be Long Now, No Me Diga, 96,000, When You're Home, Everything I Know, Champagne, and the Finale. I don't know what it is about this musical, but I just love it! Karen Olivo and Mandy Gonzales are amazing as are Christopher Jackson and Lin-Manuel Miranda. In fact the entire cast is wonderful. I really recommend this cd for anyone any age. Give it a chance, you will be pleasantly surprised!

I saw this show Off Broadway and then On. I couldn't wait for the CD to be released and it was worth the wait. See this show and listen to its original music. You won't regret it.

I saw this play in early March of 2008 and it was more than everything I was expecting. Immediately after watching it on Broadway, I went looking for the soundtrack, only to find out a few weeks later that they would release it in June 2008. It was well worth the wait. "In The Heights" deserved all four Tony Awards that it won, and it shows on this album.

BRAVO! This is an absolutely MARVELLOUS musical, specially for Latins. It's an impeccably recorded double album with detailed synopsis, color photographs from the show and the lyrics. Latins and Latin culture has occasionally been present in some Broadway pieces (WEST SIDE STORY, TWO GENTLEMEN OF VERONA); however, this musical breaks all the records since it's pure Latin blood from A to Z. Highlights? PIRAGUA, PACIENCIA Y FE and CARNAVAL DEL BARRIO will become classics. For its originality and contagious rhythms, this show deserves to run for years. Thank you, Lin-Manuel Miranda, for giving such a wonderful Latin touch to the heart of Broadway.
