Real music from a real artist!
I was raised on Al Green's music fresh from the 70s and he has been consistent ever since with his artistry. He is a pioneer and classic soul singer who has laid the foundation for present day artists such as John Legend and Anthony Hamilton. I won't use the phrase 'he's still got it' because he's never lost it. Thank God for Al Green ....he's anointed and blesses the world with his undeniable, unmistakeable voice and sound. 2008-07-15

Al Green in Rare Form
Lay It Down by Al Green is an outstanding CD. The classic soulful sound of Al Green truly comes through on every song. I highly recommend this CD. 2008-07-15

Lay it Down
Al Green was missed during the years he was not recording and Lay it Down makes us remember why. Wonderful music and guests that fit in his groove smoothly. Soulful, joyful and memorable. Put this in your CD player and press "repeat." 2008-07-13

3 Stars only becuz Al is the singer
Well, I bought this review un-read, video un-seen, tracks un-heard....on the strength of Al Greens' reputation, alone. I have many of his cd's, and so I was naturally excited to pick up the newest one. Oh boy, was I disappointed! Where are the hooks? Where are the tightly constructed songs? Bridges? Where is the old AL!? Mind you, there are a few interesting explorative type tracks on this one, but the much-hyped "duets" or collaborations are very weak. Of course, since Al can sing the phonebook, this one gets 3 stars on the strength of the vocals, alone. However, I'm afraid that the rest is forgettable.
I'll change my review if someone here can convince me that there is even one song on this whole album that is 1/10th as good as is "Belle." Yeah....Good luck trying.

Awesome Al
Having been an Al Green fan from the 70's, its great to hear his silky smooth groove again! Takes you back yet sounds new and hip as ever! Al's got it goin' on from the opening with "Lay it Down." Slide into "You've Got the Love I Need" & "What More Do You Want From Me" to get you moving. "Take Your Time" is a slow, sexy song with Corrine Baily Rae that's sure to please! Al hasn't missed a step - good to hear him back! 2008-07-11
