30 minutes journey
I listened to the soundtrack before I saw the movie and I thought it was great. However when I saw the movie, I was amazed how delicately the soundtrack was chosen. After that moment, the soundtrack takes me through a 30 minute journey.
The songs have inspiring lyrics and great melody. As a Pearl Jam fan, I think it makes you realize the great voice that their frontman has. Fully recommend.

4.5 Stars... The way movie soundtracks are supposed to be
Too many movie soundtracks these days are either the symphonic variety kind (think John Williams) or compilations of various artists, more often than not without any particular cohesiveness, other than say all-pop acts or all-R&B acts. Eddie Vedder comes along with his first solo album, and reminds us how great movie soundtracks really work.
On "Into the Wild" (11 tracks; 33 min.) Vedder takes the main themes of the movie and translates them into songs, often short, and often just Vedder and acoustic guitar, but not always. There are a couple of intrumentals as well. To me it's hard to pinpoint to "highlights" as such on here, as this album is a musical mood companion to the movie. If you've seen the movie, you know what I mean (and if you haven't seen it, what are you waiting for? rent it already!). As others have pointed out, the last track "Guaranteed" is actually the same song twice (vocal, and instrumental).
In all, this is a fantasic album. No, this isn't going to sell a bezillion copies, but so what. "Into the Wild" is what a soundtrack should be. It reminds me in spirit of that other seminal soundtrack that came out 25 years ago this year: 1983's soundtrack of "Local Hero" by Mark Knopfler (which coincidentally also was the Dire Straits' frontman's first solo album), and in my mind one of the best soundtracks EVER. "Into the Wild" comes close, and I can't wait to see where Eddie Vedder will go from here musically as a solo act.

great soundtrack from a great movie
This soundtrack takes you right back to the scenes in this movie. Eddie Vetter captured the spirit of the movie and his distinctive voice, paired with the folky acoustic guitar is memorable--Loved it! 2008-05-11

Amazing
Fantastic, almost hynoptic music. Perfectly complements the story of Christopher McCandless, but stands alone as well. 2008-05-05

Easy listening
The tunes flow & stir emotion created by the movie. Would have preferred if the final song 'guaranteed', was split in 2; the song itself & then the instrumental. Instead there's a pause in the middle...which drags song duration onto 7:17 mins. Great song though. 2008-04-30
