Leonard Cohen I'm Your Man

If I wanted to watch a bunch of other people singing Leonard Cohen songs interrupted by people talking, I'd go down to the local university quad, sit on the lawn and and roll a joint. (And sorry, Rufus Wainright is extremely overrated; Antony is just a freak show.) However, I was looking for a documentary about the man's life. There is all of about ten minutes of interview with him and about 5 between Bono and Edge, who themselves looked like they had something much more important to do. They didn't inverview Cohen's Buddhist teacher, but that may be his policy. Really the only insight is that Janis Joplin is the girl in "Chelsea Hotel" but even that's on Wikipedia.

Just read his books folks, after all, 4 minutes of the ten minutes he's interviewed is actually him reading a preface to the Japanese version of one of his own!

We so enjoyed the Netflix DVD that we ordered 3 more from Amazon which we gave as gifts. Our friends we chose to receive this DVD were as pleased as we were. Now I proceed to order more as there are more people we would like to give a copy to.

This product should be bought after listening to most of Leonard's albums.
Remember this is not Leonard singing, it is a tribute to him by other singers. I fully understood it because I already have heard Leonard singing almost all the songs. I also learned that there's a couple of songs that I should get ( buy his albums) in order to hear "the man" singing them himself !
Still, if you are a "hardcore" fan of Leonard, you should buy this. The film is very touchy and full of songs with "feelings" . I really like some of the performers, I will actually check them out and buy their albums too. The film is highlighted with Leonard's comments.

I was disappointed. This CD is Leonard Cohen's music but NOT Cohen performing the music.

this DVD is so inspiring and enlightening that it is like going to church yet without the dogma. I was unaware of the depth of cohen's work and view it again when I need a spirit lift or a connection with reality. What a genius!
